Professional Practice Consultancy and Supervision
Supervision or Professional Practice Consultancy is a key part of quality assurance in a number of
professions including counselling, psychology and coaching. In mediation it is emerging as an
expectation amongst organisations who are concerned about regulation and practice standards.
There are debates amongst mediators whether our field is a profession or a way of life. This is not
the place for that debate but whichever way we use our craft we will want to be at the top of our
game by learning from insights into how we are doing and how we can improve.
The way we continually improve our practice is to regularly step back from the fray, review how we
are doing and develop ways to do better. Easier said than done but this is where we can help. We
are experienced in mediation and coaching and trained in supervision skills.
We provide professional practice consultancy that supporst mediators to reflect on practice and
improve skills. Our approach is flexible and can work with regular or ad-hoc meetings.
Ways we can help:
We can provide our services in person, at our premises or a location of your choice, over the phone
or online. Often a combination of these works well. The service may be on a contracted basis with
goals which are worked on over time or a more informal plan which you trigger as and when you
feel support would be of use. We have a significant library of mediation and dispute resolution
books and as part of our contracted consultancy we make these available for reference.
Professional Practice Consultancy
As mediator mentors we can tailor our service
to your specific needs which may include:
Preliminary meeting to explore your
needs and agree the approach.
Follow-up meetings normally focus on a
mediation or topic for practice learning.
Sessions will normally start by
identifying the goal to work towards.
Focus is on reflective practice.
Generating ideas for development and
improvement through action learning.
Follow-on sessions normally starting
with reflections on action learning.
It is possible to conceive conflict as not
necessarily a wasteful outbreak of
incompatibilities but a normal process by
which socially valuable differences register
themselves for the enrichment of all
concerned.
